Types of Mobile Cranes
Mobile cranes play a crucial role in today's industrial world. It is safe to say we would not have been able to build many of the large structures we have today if not for heavy equipment like the mobile crane. There are many types of cranes available to help with all diverse types of projects. At Melcher Crane Company we hand-selected cranes to fit most projects. However, for specialty projects we have arrangements with different crane companies to be able to fulfill most needs. Here is a breakdown of the several types of cranes and how they are used.
Carry Deck Crane
A Cary crane is a small crane where the boom is located in the center of the platform. The crane can rotate 360 degrees. A carry Deck Crane is easy to transport and is perfect for small tight places. A carry deck crane can lift 10 to 40 tons.
Pick and Carry Crane
This is the American version of carry crane it is a great solution when you need to lift and carry a small load over a short distance. Their design allows them to travel on public roads, however they do not have the stabilizers that other cranes have.
Crawler Crane
A crawler crane is a mobile crane that has treads instead of wheels. A crawler crane is good for all weather conditions and is exceptionally stable. This crane can typically lift up to 3500 tons. Because of its size a crawler crane sometimes needs to be dismantled for transport.
Floating Cranes
Floating Cranes are cranes attached to a vessel. They are used mainly in the construction of bridges and ports. They can also be used to lift heavy and awkward loads or to take cargo on and off ships. They can carry weights over 10,000 tons.
Truck Mounted Crane
One of the most common types of mobile cranes, it can handle a wide range of tasks. Truck mounted cranes have a hydraulic crane that can go horizonal and vertically. Being on rubber truck tires a truck mounted crane is easily transported, you can simply drive it to where it needs to go. Truck mounted cranes can lift up to 1300 tons.
All-Terrain Crane
The All-Terrain Crane is a perfect mix of a rough terrain and a truck mounted crane. It has the mobile flexibility of a truck mounted crane but can also handle rough terrain. An All-Terrain Crane can lift up to 1300 tons.
